May is just around the corner, which means two things are almost here: the next First Friday Poughkeepsie and Cinco de Mayo! This year, the first Friday in May falls on the 4th, while the 5th is on Saturday. Luckily, the First Friday organizers aren't letting something as small as one day keep these two great events from joining forces! Head down to Mural Square on Friday to celebrate both beautiful Poughkeepsie and Mexican culture!
On Friday, May 4th, from 5-8:30 p.m., First Friday Poughkeepsie is encouraging everyone to head to Mural Square (253 Main Street) in their favorite Mexican attire for Cinco de Mayo! Attendees will have an evening of fun and community as we celebrate the diversity of cultures in the area!
There will be no shortage of local, theme-appropriate food available for everyone to enjoy from area restaurants. Plus, it wouldn't be First Friday without great beverages! Mill House Brewing Co. will be on site with a new craft beer specifically brewed for this event, while Milo’s Cantina will be providing delicious margaritas!
As always, the event will kick off with a word from Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison. The live entertainment for the night will include music and dance performances by Mariachi Sol Azteca, Carica Geigel, Estee Lavoe, Grupo Folklorico Mixtonalli, and Grupo Folklorico de Poughkeepsie. In between the live acts, First Friday Poughkeepsie Emcee Michelle Barone-Lepore and DJ Smitty will make sure that the party keeps raging!
For all the parents out there, kids are welcome too! The event will feature a bounce house, face painters, and a petting zoo with llamas.
Finally, First Friday Poughkeepsie is choosing three local charities to spotlight each month! For May, the amazing organizations being honored are Angels of Light, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in the name of Kelsey Berger, and Vet2Vet.
